Thermal Management Solutions DE Oberboihingen GmbH is investing in a sustainable future. In collaboration with CUBE CONCEPTS, a comprehensive photovoltaic project is being developed at the Oberboihingen site. The goal is to strengthen self-sufficiency with environmentally friendly electricity, significantly reduce CO₂ emissions, and secure long-term competitiveness.
Rooftop solar PV system
The photovoltaic system was officially inaugurated on August 14, 2025, as part of a symbolic ceremony. Managing Director Holger Kiebel and Lars Petry, Head of Quality & Environment, participated in the ceremony. Also present were Mayor Ulrich Spangenberg of Ebenhöring and Ralph Wurster, Managing Director of the Southwestmetall District Group Neckar-Fils. Representatives from CUBE CONCEPTS were also present.
A total of 986 solar modules were installed on a roof area of approximately 5,800 m².

With the roof-mounted photovoltaic system from CUBE CONCEPTS, Thermal Management Solutions DE Oberboihingen GmbH aims to become independent of rising electricity prices. The company is a world leader in the manufacture of thermostats and oil temperature controllers for the automotive and commercial vehicle industries. With the ‚Wahler‘ brand, it also takes its environmental footprint into account, alongside product quality.
In addition to several avoidance, reduction, and compensation projects, the photovoltaic system is the final component. It completes the path to climate-neutral production at the Oberboihingen site. Already on July 7, 2025, the certification body TCS (Technical Certification Services GmbH) confirmed the successful implementation of CO₂-neutral production. Thanks to the green photovoltaic electricity, the plant will remain a strong partner for its customers in the future. At the same time, it continues to build on its competitive advantages.
With this commitment, Thermal Management Solutions DE Oberboihingen GmbH underscores its responsibility towards the environment and society. In doing so, the company relies on innovative energy partnerships to ensure long-term sustainability and efficiency of the site.
Voices on the PV Project
Mayor of Oberboihingen Ulrich Spangenberg is pleased with the CO₂-neutral electricity production on the existing roof surfaces of the traditional company. „With this extraordinary commitment, Thermal Management Solutions has built the largest photovoltaic system on an existing building in Oberboihingen. In particular, for energy-intensive industrial sites, the use of the roof for self-consumption and grid-feed is an important step. In this way, CO₂ can be saved in a meaningful and sustainable way.“ He hopes that more companies will follow this example. This is ultimately also an important factor for the necessary resilience in the electricity and energy market, he is convinced.
Also Ralph Wurster, The Managing Director of the Neckar-Fils Regional Group of Südwestmetall praises the project: „Especially in economically challenging times, it is a strong signal when a company not only believes in the location. Here, targeted investments are also made in its future viability. The Thermal Management Solutions DE Oberboihingen GmbH is demonstrating with this photovoltaic project that economic action and sustainable responsibility are not mutually exclusive. On the contrary, they can be purposefully combined. The commitment to the location of Oberboihingen and the investment in climate-friendly technologies are exemplary for future-oriented industrial policy in the medium-sized business sector. They are also a clear sign that transformation can be actively and successfully implemented even in an industrial environment.“
