BW expands funding program for solar carports

With the expansion of the „Parking Lot Canopies with Photovoltaics“ program, the state is massively advancing the use of sealed surfaces for the energy transition. From a size of 35 parking spaces, companies benefit from attractive subsidies that significantly accelerate the amortization of solar carports and pave the way to climate neutrality.

The funding program in Baden-Württemberg, which was launched in March 2023, is now entering its second round and is providing a further 2.3 million euros for companies that want to equip their existing company parking spaces of 35 spaces or more with Roof over solar modules want. According to the Ministry for the Environment, Climate Protection and the Energy Sector, it has already approved funding for 18 projects in the first round. The 2.5 million euros made available in the spring have therefore almost been exhausted. The Ministry has announced that further projects are expected to be approved this year.

The funding program as part of the Climate Act BW

In accordance with the Baden-Württemberg Climate Protection and Climate Change Adaptation Act (KlimaG BW), the state is aiming to achieve climate neutrality by 2040. In order to achieve this goal, a significant expansion of renewable energies, particularly in the field of photovoltaics, is essential, it is said. The installation of solar carports on already sealed parking areas in particular would lead to few conflicts, so that precisely this potential should be exploited and specifically promoted.

Up to 200,000 euros in subsidies per system

The "Parking lot roofing with photovoltaics" program is divided into two components that cannot be combined. Companies that wish to install new solar carports on existing parking lots with 35 parking spaces or more in conjunction with a connection to the public grid receive up to 200,000 euros. The amount of funding depends on the installed capacity. Module B serves to support the development of regional and networking concepts and can be funded with up to 100,000 euros per project. The funded projects must be completed by the end of November 2024 at the latest.

Funding program deadlines still open

A precise schedule for the expansion of the Support program has not yet been determined. However, the funded PV projects should be completed by 30.11.2024. The deadline for submitting applications for the first round ended in spring on 31.05.2023. The time frame for the second round could be similar. Companies should hurry up now with the project preparation and funding applications if they want to benefit from the funding.
