Neunkirchen, June 25, 2025. A little over a year and a half after the groundbreaking, the time has come: The SCHÄFER WERKE Group takes the largest solar park in the Siegen-Wittgenstein district operational. A total of 3,240 state-of-the-art PV modules can produce up to almost 2 million kilowatt-hours of renewable, climate-friendly electricity annually. SCHÄFER Werke thus reach an important milestone on their path to climate neutrality by 2030.
2 MWp for the SCHÄFER WERKE Group
The Solar park with a total area of over 9,000 square meters of PV modules, has been built northeast of the SCHÄFER site on the Pfannenberg. The installed power of almost two megawatt peak (2 MWp) is capable of covering about one-third of the total electricity demand at the SCHÄFER WERKE Group's main site. The environmentally friendly electricity generation enables Annual savings of 926,574 kg CO2. The goal is to achieve a high self-consumption rate of 68.1% of the solar energy generated. In this way, SCHÄFER WERKE reduces its dependence on external energy sources, increases its security of supply, and simultaneously optimizes its CO2Footprint.
Ecological Responsibility
As a family-run company with over 85 years of history, the SCHÄFER WERKE group has always seen it as its responsibility to consider and implement ecological sustainability in all its business activities. „The completion of the solar park is a crucial step towards a sustainable future. The multi-million euro investment forms a central building block of our concept, with which we aim to achieve our own climate neutrality according to Scope 1 and 2 by 2030,“ says Marcus Düber, Managing Director of the SCHÄFER WERKE group. As a positive side effect, the approximately 11,500 square meter site, with the completion of the solar park, will offer ecologically valuable retreats for plants, insects, birds, and reptiles in the future.
Sustainable implementation with CO2-reduced steel
High standards for ecologically sound manufacturing also applied to the structural implementation of the solar park. Thus, for the frames of the PV modules exclusively CO2Reduced steel from ArcelorMittal for use. The EMW Steel Service Center, a division of the SCHÄFER WERKE Group, is responsible for this. The company sees itself as a pioneer in the trading and processing of so-called „green steel.“ In close cooperation with the customer BECKER Profile GmbH, EMW was also able to achieve short lead times in the processing of the required steel profiles – for a holistically ecological project.

Solar energy for a sustainable future by CUBE CONCEPTS
The planning and implementation of the solar park were carried out in collaboration with CUBE CONCEPTS, an experienced planning and full-service company for commercial photovoltaic systems. „We are very pleased that our specialists were able to conceive and realize a tailor-made solution for future-oriented energy generation at this location as well,“ explains Luca Bermpohl, Account Manager at CUBE CONCEPTS. „The project at Pfannenberg shows how companies can consistently combine their sustainability strategy with ecological added value and economic benefit.“
Marcus Düber: „The commissioning of our solar park on the national day of sustainability represents a milestone for the SCHÄFER WERKE Group. Our thanks go to all external partners and service providers, as well as our dedicated employees, who contributed to its successful implementation.“
