The aim is to relieve the burden on regions with a high proportion of renewable energies. Through a <strong>nationwide surcharge of 1.558 ct\/kWh<\/strong> around 2.4 billion euros to all electricity consumers. <strong>more fairly distributed<\/strong> the idea. The fairer distribution of costs should also ensure greater acceptance for the expansion of renewable energies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In recent years, the grid fees for industry and commerce have <strong>increased significantly.<\/strong> While they were still around 28 % of electricity costs in 2023, they increased to 28-31 % in 2024. For 2025, a further increase to around <strong>38 %<\/strong> expected. This development is primarily due to rising grid expansion costs and poses a noticeable threat to energy-intensive companies in Germany in particular.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Grid fees 2025: Regional differences in industry and commerce<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The new distribution of grid costs will reduce the grid fees for industry and commerce by an average of 6.9 %. However, the actual relief or additional burden depends heavily on the location and the individual consumption profile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Regions with falling grid charges<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Industrial companies and commercial customers in federal states with a high proportion of renewable energies will benefit the most from the new regulation. Grid fees are expected to fall by an average of:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Schleswig-Holstein: -29 %<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: -29 %<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Brandenburg: -21 %<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Bavaria: -16 %<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Thuringia: -15 %<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Saxony &amp; Saxony-Anhalt: -7 %<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Hesse: -4 %<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Lower Saxony: -4 %<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Baden-W\u00fcrttemberg: -1 %<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Regions with rising grid charges<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In some regions of Germany, however, companies will have to prepare for higher grid fees. The largest increases are expected in the following federal states:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Berlin: +7 %<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Hamburg: +6 %<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Rhineland-Palatinate: +4 %<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>North Rhine-Westphalia: +2 %<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Saarland &amp; Bremen: +1 %<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Effects on companies and competitiveness<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The reduction in grid fees in regions with a strong renewable energy sector could make companies based there more competitive and create incentives for new investments. Energy-intensive industrial companies in Schleswig-Holstein, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Brandenburg in particular will benefit from the reduction in grid fees. On the other hand, companies in metropolitan areas such as Berlin and Hamburg must expect rising costs, which has a negative impact on their attractiveness as a business location.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Conclusion: How companies should act now<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Companies should closely examine their individual grid fees for 2025 and take measures to optimize their electricity consumption if necessary. Companies in regions with rising grid fees in particular should reduce their energy costs in the long term by making more efficient use of their own electricity generation or adapting their load management.
