Europe<\/strong>\u2019s industrial electricity prices also vary significantly in 2024<\/strong> and are dependent on numerous factors. In Germany and other European countries, they are set individually. Large or energy-intensive companies generally benefit from cheaper tariffs than private households, which makes a distinction between residential and industrial electricity prices necessary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Composition of European industrial electricity prices<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Industrial electricity prices are determined by various factors. The largest share usually comes from the wholesale prices on the spot markets<\/strong>, which are crucial when contracts are concluded with energy providers. In addition, there are network charges<\/strong>, taxes<\/strong> and levies<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Companies with high energy consumption often benefit from special exemptions such as subsidies<\/strong>, tax<\/strong> incentives, or reduced<\/strong> network charges, such as the \u201eband<\/a> current privilege\u201c in Germany or the \u201eatypical network use<\/a>\u201c under \u00a7 19, paragraph 2 of the StromNEV. Furthermore, many large consumers still receive free CO\u2082 certificates under the European emissions trading scheme and have access to individually negotiated, often not publicly known, special contracts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Europe's industrial electricity prices 2024 at a glance<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In 2024, the average European industrial electricity price was 18.7 cents\/kWh<\/strong> for industries with an annual consumption between 20 MWh and 500 MWh. This includes network charges. Value-added tax and other fees were not taken into account, however.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Accordingly, companies in Ireland paid the highest prices at 25.6 cents per kWh, followed by Cyprus (24.5 cents). The lowest prices were recorded in Finland (9.3 cents), Sweden (9.4 cents) and Denmark (9.8 cents). Germany<\/strong> was about 25 cents % above the EU average with 23.3<\/strong> cents per kWh, while industrial customers with lower consumption (< 20 MWh) in the medium voltage range only had to spend an average of 16.99<\/strong> cents per kWh. Companies in Poland paid 20.8 cents, which was 11 cents % below the average, while in France almost 27 cents % less was demanded with 17.1 cents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
